As a forager, you are better off staying small, and now that you’re out of the water, that’s sensible anyway. With a smaller body, you don’t need to push oxygen through so far, so your leg gills become simpler and smaller, eventually ending up as just patches of thin carapace behind your first couple of legs. These are called spiracles. You start to lose your tail, as it’s not very useful out here on land.

It’s a lot more work to move around.
In fact, wherever possible, the easiest thing to do is found a food source, and then stay on it. For example, something that sheds dead skin, or better yet, something you can poke a hole in with your pointy chelicera and then eat whatever comes out!

What’s it going to be?

Eat the living!

Eat the dead!
