Stick with what you know: eating detritus. Saves you expending all that energy to build massive claws and muscles, right?

Plus detritus is nice. Bits of other animals. Waste matter. Something’s got to clean all that stuff up. But it’s not really that nutritious. It’s safe, and easy, and it’s a food source that is constantly produced by other life, but there’s a lot of eating to be done to get enough energy to reproduce.

Might be better if you kept to a smaller body plan? Right now, you grow a variable number of segments, each of which bears a pair of jointed, arthopodic, legs. Do you really need all those?

I can manage with a bit less. Say, seven pairs.

I want to be a lean mean eating machine. I’ll make do with five pairs.
